Pioneering Real-Time Hypercar Physics in the Web Browser
The 3D Tesla Roadster Game was founded on a simple question: Can modern browser technologies render the theoretical physics of the next-generation Tesla Roadster with the SpaceX Package at a blisteringly responsive 60 frames per second without any downloads or plugins?
From Impossible Specs to Real-Time Code
When the theoretical benchmarks of the 2026 Tesla Roadster were announced—0 to 60 MPH in 0.58 seconds, cold-gas nitrogen thrusters capable of instant directional thrust, and active 2G underbody vacuum suction—the automotive and gaming worlds debated whether such numbers were physically plausible or technically representable in a consumer simulation.
We assembled a passionate collective of WebGL graphics developers, automotive simulation engineers, and open-web advocates to model those exact mechanics in Three.js and WebGL. Our goal was not to make another arcade racer with fake speed effects, but to build an interactive, mathematically rigorous digital twin that anyone on Earth could launch in under 2 seconds.
The Frictionless Open Web
Modern PC and console titles demand 100GB installs, paid subscriptions, and proprietary hardware. We believe the future of interactive 3D media belongs to the open web.
- Zero Download Barrier: Jump into the driver seat via a single URL on Chrome, Safari, Edge, or Firefox.
- Cross-Platform Universal Support: Seamless scaling across desktop PCs, high-refresh gaming monitors, M-series Macs, iPad Pro, and mobile phones.
- Strict Privacy First: Zero account gates, zero invasive trackers, and 100% client-side GPU execution.
- 100% Free Forever: Educational and recreational access with no microtransactions or pay-to-win mechanics.
The Four Pillars of the Roadster Physics Engine
SpaceX Cold-Gas Dynamics
Simulates four directional Composite Overwrapped Pressure Vessel (COPV) nitrogen thrusters. When ignited, thrust vectors exert up to 1.8G of instantaneous longitudinal acceleration, altering the vehicle's center-of-gravity envelope in real-time.
2G Active Venturi Suction
Models inverted Bernoulli downforce fans that pin the hypercar to surface normals. Players can scale 90-degree vertical skyscraper facades and inverted loop-de-loops without losing aerodynamic wheel contact.
Tri-Motor Vectoring & Slip
One front motor and two rear motors dynamically adjust torque per wheel. Combined with Pacejka-derived tire slip angle curves, the vehicle transitions predictably from glued apex carving into high-slip counter-steer drifts.
Millisecond Telemetry Pipeline
High-precision timers measure 0–60 MPH, 0–100 MPH, and quarter-mile drag traps with NHRA-accurate staging light logic. Telemetry updates at the native monitor refresh rate (60Hz to 240Hz).
Modern Web Architecture & Tech Stack
How we engineered an uncompromising Multi-Page Application (MPA) with edge-optimized WebGL streaming.
| Layer | Technology | Purpose & Implementation Detail |
|---|---|---|
| 3D Graphics Engine | Three.js r128 (WebGL 2.0) | High-throughput draw call batching, custom PBR car paint shaders, and real-time environment reflection mapping. |
| Site Framework | Astro 5.0 (Static MPA) | Multi-Page Application architecture generating clean, static HTML for optimal search engine indexing, zero bundle bloat, and sub-100ms TTFB. |
| Design System | Vercel Geist System | Developer-grade typography (Geist Sans, Geist Mono), precision light/dark theme CSS variables, and accessible interactive controls. |
| 3D Asset Compression | glTF 2.0 + Meshopt Decoder | Compressed the detailed 45MB vehicle model into a 1.8MB binary payload for sub-second streaming on cellular connections. |
| Audio Synthesis | Web Audio API | Real-time programmatic electric motor frequency modulation and procedural cold-gas hiss without static audio file latency. |
| Edge Hosting | Global Edge CDN | Zero-cold-start edge distribution with HTTP/3, Brotli compression, and automated edge caching. |
